Reflection at Easter
This Easter weekend just gone would have seen Good Friday and Easter Sunday’s trading to be extremely high and a landmark event for the year.
However, this year is different, with pubs, restaurants, and hotels remaining closed, bringing misery to the people involved in our marvellous and appreciated industry.
We have now realised hospitality is very much part of the fabric of all our lives, bringing joy and happiness to all of us. For me, as a person who loves long walks in the countryside, there is nothing better for myself and my wife to end the walk with a lovely pint of beer at the local pub. We have missed it and can’t wait to be able to enjoy this very simple, but enjoyable, habit again.
Nice and early last Sunday, we went, as we usually do on the last Sunday of the month, to support our local market and what a delight it was! Well-presented stands, very friendly and welcoming traders, and delicious, seasonal food, grown very locally – a great source of inspiration for the dinner table to excite both our palates and our expertise behind the stove. One of the highlights was to buy some local wild garlic, but I really couldn’t wait for Sunday, so a friend of ours has some in her back garden and invited us to pick some. The joy of picking it up myself will gave me plenty of pleasure. I have made my first harvest into a super pesto, and the next is reserved for wild garlic butter; the delicious smell and the bright green colour proving very tempting!
We cannot wait to re-open The Great House and welcome you back again. The pleasures of life we all took for granted can return to us, even in the most of simplest of ways, and will bring us joy and pleasure.
We must be kind and friendly, after what we have gone through, and we must all appreciate the simple things in life, helping each other, being kind and generous, and not forgetting the respect and affection to nature, and all wild things, that share space with us.
We would love you to book your next meal or event with us. The Great House has a very professional team at the front and back of house, who will deliver superb quality at competitive prices. We want to get back to the routine of working and demonstrating the skills we all have in this profession and I know you will not find it better, anywhere else in Suffolk or nearby, than at The Great House.
We also want to do our bit to support lovely Lavenham’s great name and see all the shops trading with the smile of happiness on everyone’s face.
If you have already booked, thank you so much, we are very grateful to you, but also thank you for the purchases many of you have made during the lockdown, including meals from our Chef’s Table at Home. Not only has this kept us sane, but your purchases have also helped towards our survival in these lean times.
I hope you had an enjoyable Easter and the entire Great House team, Swann, Mathieu, and Antoine can’t wait to see you soon.
