Hope for a better and fairer 2021
We are fast approaching the New Year and leaving behind what one could describe as an unexpectedly eventful 2020.
I look forward to the challenges 2021 will bring, but it has to be a fair challenge unlike what we have experienced this year.
At the time of writing, hospital demands are at the same level as April and the numbers of infections are alarmingly rising, so we are not in a good situation. Moving into Tier Four, in my view, was inevitable.
From a business point, a bird’s eye view of the industry would show destruction, morale, and finances at an all-time low. The Great House is part of this great industry and we have gone from what looked like a very promising December, to a complete washout.
Once Tier Two arrived, we saw a rush of cancellations for our dining room and bedroom bookings. Tier Four has completely destroyed our trade.
The result is the worst Christmas for The Great House and the rest of the hospitality industry. Our Head Chef, Swann, and his team designed the most ambitious menu ever created at The Great House, delivered in a very creative way to the few people we were able to accommodate.
I hope for a better and fairer 2021 so we can rebuild and hopefully carve a secure future.
We also want to see lovely Lavenham full of life again, with visitors from all over the country and further afield, all happy with their experience and stay.
This seems a long way away at this present time.
On behalf of all of the staff members, myself, and my wife, we wish you a very happy, healthy, and safe New Year and we hope to see you again soon.
Thank you for your support during the tough and challenging year of 2020.
