Summer End at The Great House

Dear Friend,

The end of the summer is in sight and after the recent Death Valley like temperatures we have experienced, many of us will be pleased to see the kinder type of weather we enjoy, back.

Lovely Lavenham and its surroundings now has its September look, the fields have been cut, hay and straw piled up, forming a lovely landscape to enjoy.

Sadly, the farmers are reporting low yield, the weather did not help, so 2020 might be a tough year for them. The Great House, like all of our industry colleagues, is also feeling the pinch, but the government has stepped in and the Eat Out to Help Out offer has had amazing results on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday this August, but generally the industry has reported a quieter Thursday, Friday and even Saturday.

Generally, people have enjoyed the good deal in the 72,000 nationwide participating eating houses.

We took the decision to still not open Monday and Tuesday lunch so the staff can have a well-earned break.

The multi-course Experience Menu has gone down very well, and we have received many positive comments. The new, end of summer menu, has been prepared by head chef Swann and his team but I cannot give you any indication as to what it is as I have been banned from the meetings to discuss it or the cooking sessions, but Swann clearly indicated this is the best menu ever at The Great House, with only a few days to wait before I can enjoy it and I hope you will too.

What I can also announce is the introduction of a Champagne Week, a menu inspired by the culinary delights of this lovely area of France and its unique wine. We have, for some years, had a Champagne Evening but decided a week would help many of you to enjoy this culinary experience. So make a note in your diary for week beginning 15th September. More details will be on our website soon.

We will also continue our annual celebration of the famous Beaujolais Nouveau, a real fun evening tasting and celebrating the new wine, so book early not forgetting social distancing will mean reduced capacity.

Our beautiful bedrooms are of course available for the Champagne Week or Beaujolais Nouveau if you want to make the experience extra special.

If you have visited or stayed at The Great House before, you will know we are taking every possible precautions to ensure your dining experience is a relaxed and safe one so you can enjoy your special event or simply dinner for two with us.

If you prefer to eat at home, we also can help, just look on our website for our current Dine at Home Menu, same quality and the great taste of The Great House cooking in the comfort of your own home.

Since reopening, all of the team have been delighted to see back so many familiar faces and some new ones too but the reminder on how devastating those past few months have been remain. Suffolk has proved to be one of the safest county in the country so we must do our best to keep it that way.

We all want to thank you for your support, we really appreciate it, and hope to see you soon. So from all The Great House team, thank you again, keep safe and see you soon.

Kind regards
Dr DA Tropeano
